“Passion alone can’t cut it. For passion to survive it needs structure. A ‘why’ without ‘how’ has little probability of success.”
― Simon Sinek, Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action
You love music and you love production – that’s why you’re here! You want to keep it going until you’ve successfully reached your goals and beyond. But how do we get there? How do we stay focussed in a world full of distractions? How do we keep the momentum going when we hit the bumps and potholes along the way?
Now that we’ve begun defining our ‘why’ and subsequently our purpose, we can build some additional critical foundations for success as a music producer by discussing one more simple (but so often overlooked) truth;
Consistent momentum wins every time.
Consistency. Vision. Think about it. Some days can be good, productive, healthy – other days can be the opposite. The nature of the day-to-day, is volatility. However, the character of the successful is defined by consistency. If each day is a rock, then just thinking on a day-to-day basis without vision for the long term, would simply leave us with a pile of rocks. However, by imagining what we’re building, we can carefully place each rock so that over time, we can build a wall, or a house, or even a castle – there is no limit to what you can build with consistent effort applied towards a singular purpose. The question is, how will you use each ‘rock’, to build your future, despite its jagged unrefined edges or unusual shape. Do you just see a boring old rock? Or do you see the potential of what it could be?
Developing your mindset so that you use each day (whether good or bad) to further your learning and your career will be critical in driving consistent results toward your goals. Practise the art of setting your mind right at the start of each day. For example, be grateful for what you have, rather than lamenting about all the things you don’t have. If you are doing this course right now, it means you have everything you need to start your career. The challenge is less to do with anything you lack materially and far more to do with your attitude, which then drives you physically and emotionally towards becoming a successful music producer. Success is a process. It will take daily effort to learn, to problem-solve, to develop creative (or lateral) thinking and to become solution-focussed as a positive force.
Decide today to embrace the changes you need to make in your own mindset in order to succeed at becoming the best music producer you could possibly be. The tools you will learn from this course are EASY to learn. The hardest part, but arguably the most important (and hardest to teach), will be about the choice of your own attitude towards embracing positive changes and being willing to put in the hard work.
If you can decide today to ride the wave of unknown challenges – that indeed nothing is going to stop you in your pursuit of successful music production, then you will dramatically increase your chances for success – something we all want to see!!
Stay focussed. Be consistent. Drive momentum.
